John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs that he wrote, many of them set in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He fell in love with Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his home state inspired many visitors to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever inductee. He is now the international face of Colorado. In all my travels I've encountered many individuals who do not hail from Colorado. They will beg, "Oh John Denver!" When they hear you come from Colorado. Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief career as a folk musician, was Denver's debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff originally wrote it with Johnny Cash's music with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver knew from the first time he heard the first versions of the song that it could be a huge success. Danoff recorded the track only a few days afterward after performing it to the awe-inspiring crowd in Washington D.C.
